Mum-to-Be of the month - Laura!

Hi Laura! First of all, congratulations on being Mum-to-Be of the Month! Tell me, how many weeks are you now and how are you feeling?

I am nearly 35 weeks and I am feeling really good.  Getting excited about meeting the latest addition to our family!

What aspects of pregnancy are you enjoying?

It is really lovely when people are really pleased for you.  I also love looking at tiny baby clothes and shoes – they are soooo cute.

And the not-such-fun bits?

Getting bigger, achy wrists and legs, having to sleep on your side!

What’s been your favourite pregnancy gadget?

Fetal heart rate gizmo – good for checking everything is ok with baby!

You do your pregnancy exercises with me but have you always been active or is this new?

I’ve been active for a while, prior to pregnancy I was a gym bunny and a half marathon runner.

Are you into healthy eating? What’s your all-time favourite dish?

Yes I am (although I do love an Indian take away too!).  Apart from a good curry, I like other spicy dishes like fajitas and chilli con carne.

How do you find combining pregnancy with work?

I am lucky that my job is mostly office based although I did have to do a fair bit of travel in the first trimester which was tiring.  It is getting harder now I am more tired but I only have a week left at work now.

Are you looking forward to maternity leave?

I feel a bit mixed about it as it will be such a change for me.  I have spent the last 10 years being really career focused and this will be totally different!

And what about the birth? Thinking about it or a case of bury your head in the sand?

I wouldn’t say head buried in the sand but I do believe that you shouldn’t waste energy worrying about things that you can’t change!  I am trying to stay as fit as possible to give myself the best possible chance but ultimately, I do think it is luck of the draw whether things go to plan or not.

What are you most looking forward to about motherhood?

Having that influence over a young person to try and bring them up to be the best that they can be.

We all need a bit of “me time” when we’re mums. What will you be squeezing into your “mummy me time”?

Running!  I am desperate to get back in to my trainers and clock up some mileage!

Well a word of warning from me, laura: don't start running too soon as it can damage your joints and your pelvic floor if you start doing impact work in the first 6 months post-birth! Make sure you build up your postnatal fitness carefully. Just had to sneak that one in... ;)

Laura, thank you so much. You look totally fab and we can't wait to hear your news.
