Can I fix my post pregnancy tummy?

You know what I mean, don’t you? It’s that soft, squishy, spongy feeling the tummy has after having a baby. Well, let’s face it – it’s hardly surprising. The abdominal area has been stretched way beyond its normal range; it’s been lengthened; the area has weakened; the upper most layer of muscle has kind of “thinned out”; and in most cases this layer even separates.

Picture this: before pregnancy you had layers of muscle wrapped round your middle, like tight cling film holding everything neatly in. Then your bouncing baby grew… and grew… and grew… and the cling film stretched and stretched and stretched.

Once your little one arrived on the scene, what were you left with? A layer of somewhat baggy, weakened cling film flapping around your tummy. What a thought!

It doesn’t look great but on a far more fundamental level it also leaves you vulnerable to back pain: think of the abdominals as a kind of protective corset for your back. Well, your corset is now loose, and a loose corset isn’t very supportive.

So can the loose corset – the post pregnancy belly - be tightened up again post pregnancy?

The good news is that, in general, the abdominals can be fixed and it doesn’t require drastic intervention along the lines of the going under the surgeon’s knife. Through a combination of some very basic fundamentals, the right sort of exercises and the right sort of nourishment, you should be able to make truly excellent progress.

So I thought you might like me to go through this step by step “post pregnancy belly fixing” process with you next week. If that sounds like a good idea, give me a thumbs up on facebook and I’ll make that part of my next newsletter.
