Elizabeth Hackett , the Essential Pharmacist, is this month's expert

Let’s hear a bit about your background….

I am a hospital pharmacist with a love of Essential Oils. I prefer to use natural remedies where possible and have found that high quality Essential Oils have often helped my friends and family to avoid needing to use medicines.

And what about your field of expertise? How did that come about?

I have always loved nice smells and have always known that I feel good in myself when I smell certain aromas. Many years ago I tried Essential Oils bought from a health food shop, but they really didn’t work, so I spent the next 20 years of my life thinking Essential Oils smelt good but had no therapeutic benefit! Then I tried doTERRA oils and everything changed!

What do you most love about life?

I love empowering people to take more control of life situations, particularly relating to their health.

OK, so what about the not-so-good-bits?

I have zero sense of direction and can still get lost even when I just pop to the shops!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Oh wow, I have no idea – maybe when I threw the javelin at an international school sports event when I lived in Hong Kong? Or perhaps when I was appointed as a Diabetes Clinical Champion – I was the only pharmacist in the country to have this title at the time? Maybe speaking on stage at the doTERRA European oils convention in front of 5000 people? Or maybe was it when I fought Charnwood Borough Council over the wrongful issue of a parking ticket – I lost the first local appeal, but took it further and won. Take your pick…

What is your next big goal in life?

I have so many goals, I never stand still. I am always keen to learn more and acquire new skills. At the moment I am learning about forex trading and am really excited that I know what Bitcoin is and actually own some Bitcoin. This is something I had zero interest in up until very recently and now I am fascinated!

Coffee or herbal infusion?

Both, in the morning I need caffeine as I go to bed too late since I often work late at night, but after one coffee I have herbal infusions for the rest of the day.

Dark, milk or white chocolate?

Dark or milk, it depends on the brand – I don’t choose Dairy Milk, but cannot resist Hotel Chocolat milk chocolates * note from Jo "Try the zestEAR brand. I can recommend! ;)

What word or phrase do you most overuse?

“Turn that noise down!” (I cannot concentrate when my children have the TV or music on too loud). This is why I often work late at night when the house is quiet and still. I am far more productive like this.

What is the most important lesson that life has taught you?

Perseverance and not giving up when it gets tough.

What is your work or business philosophy?

Treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself. I have high expectations, therefore I try to make sure I deliver my very best at all times.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to others?

Follow your dreams and never let anyone else tell you that you cannot succeed.
