Closing the Bones

Over the last 16 years of working in the field of maternal wellbeing, I have unwaveringly focused on the phenomenal restorative power of physical activity. As a mother to three sons, I always say that exercise is the most powerful tool in my "motherhood kit", and there is no doubt that research backs this up. Yet over the last few years I have come to realise the importance of weaving in other elements of wellbeing to create mental space, to allow for closure, recovery, healing, and to honour the new beginnings of motherhood. Closing the Bones was on my radar for a long while but it was only in late 2024 that I felt ready to train as a practitioner so that I could offering this peaceful ritual that is designed to help a woman come back to herself physically, emotionally and spiritually, after she has given birth.

Now that my purpose-built, tranquil new venue is close to complete, I am ready to offer you a Closing the Bones ceremony from early February 2025.

What to expect?

  • Gentle rocking, wrapping of the body and abdominal massage to bring the bones, joints, soft tissue and organs back into optimal alignment.

  • Wrapping of the eyes and head to allow the woman to travel internally, providing space for physical, emotional an energetic closure.

  • Ceremonial elements to hold space for the woman, supporting her through this transition, honouring these new beginnings and endings.

  • Time afterwards to share a warming, ritual cacao drink and time to talk.

But let the words of those who I have treated speak to you:

    "
I've reflected on the lovely treatment and ceremony you kindly held on Friday. I have benefitted so much from it. The treatment of being wrapped felt incredibly relaxing to me. I enjoyed the tight binding; I could really feel my hips coming back together and I allowed myself to relax into the bind, to really feel that support from being held. The rocking of the hips felt releasing - I felt misalignment and tender on my right SI and around my PSIS. That pain has significantly reduced, and my hips feel freer! The massage felt lovely too - very centering and connecting abdomen and heart energies together. I was moved by the song and the drumming to complete the session. It was a distinct closure of my birth and the past 4 years. I feel clearer and able to move forward. Thank you so much, Jo. You will be in high demand for this. I am so grateful to you for treating me.Kerry

The Closing of the Bones Ceremony facilitated by Jo was truly a transformative experience that has left a lasting impact on me. I had been looking for a practitioner of this ancient practice for a few years so when I found Jo there was a sense of serendipity. From the moment it began, I felt at home and at ease. Jo's gentle approach and thoughtful explanation of the ceremony set the tone for a profound and emotional journey. The ceremony itself was a relaxing and restful experience, as Jo guided me through the closing of the bones ritual with care and compassion. I experienced a deep sense of release and healing as I allowed myself to surrender to the process. Jo's voice and intentionally chosen sung words were like a soothing balm for my soul. Afterwards, as we chatted over a delicious cup of cacao, it was as if a weight had been lifted. I am so grateful to Jo for guiding me through this beautiful and sacred ceremony, and I would highly recommend it to any mother in need of a deeply restorative session. Thank you, Jo, for your wisdom, compassion, and support." Sarah
