Frequently asked questions

What?

Using the large Swiss therapy ball, CoreBall is a class that focuses on working the deep, stabilising abdominal muscles which protect and support your back. It is a playful class incorporating not only the Swiss ball but also pairs work, medicine balls, overballs, resistance bands... and the odd kettlebell for those who need to be pushed a good bit further in their fitness.

CoreBall is an easygoing class suitable for a wide range of people, from those with lower back pain seeking to strengthen their deep abdominals in a gentle fashion, to serious runners, cyclists and triathletes who wish to improve core stability to enhance sports performance.

CoreBall will help to:

  • Increase core strength and abdominal tone so as to help protect the back
  • Alleviate back pain
  • Strengthen the upper body in particular
  • Improve posture

When?

Courses start in January, April, July and September and run for the duration of term time (apart from the summer course) on Thursdays at 7.35pm: this enables me to progress the exercises over the period (yes, that means work you harder!) and it also ensures that I am aware of any medical restrictions (back trouble, joints, postnatal complications etc.) that people might have on the course, as everyone fills in a confidential medical screening form beforehand.

Where?

My Leicestershire CoreBall takes place in the lovely new Woodhouse Community Hall, LE12 8TZ, set in beautiful countryside just south of Loughborough.

How much?

The cost of each CoreBall course depends on the number of weeks the course is running for. A 10 week course costs £70 and for this you get:

  • A small, friendly group setting where you are looked after as an individual, catering for any individual problems such as back or joint pain, as well as pregnancy or post-pregnancy separation of the abdominals (if relevant)
  • A complimentary natural cotton shopping bag filled with information about, and special offers from, lots of interesting products and services
  • A weekly newsletter with lots of information, tips and recipes
  • An optional organised evening out each term
  • An interesting and varied mix of equipment used in class to keep you strong and to help release tension in the lower back and shoulders

Testimonial

"Being new to Coreball I had very little idea what it involved. I found the course enjoyable and challenging, and yes, I was the first person to sign up for next term! Jo always ensures there is a good range of exercises for each class and provides the right level of encouragement to challenge everyone. On a personal note, I love the way Jo gives you a number of levels for each exercise enabling you to find the right challenge and see what you are ultimately aiming towards. This enables you to see improvements and results as the weeks progress. I also enjoy the interactive nature of this class, with many of the exercises working in pairs or as a whole group. This is a fun hour and you know your core muscles have worked the next day so that must be good news!"

Frequently asked questions

Q. When does the next CoreBall course start?

A. If you go into the “Latest & Blog” section of the website you will find up-to-date information on dates and times of classes.

Q. Your current course is already running. May I join part-way through?

A. It depends on whether or not my course is full. The best thing is to contact Jayne directly if you would like to try and join a course part-way through: jayne@zest4lifeuk.com

Q. I suffer from back pain. Is it alright to do CoreBall

A. This course uses core stability techniques and focuses specifically on strengthening your abdominals, as well as on posture. It can, therefore, be particularly beneficial for those suffering from back pain, if done with excellent technique. I would, however, suggest that you seek advice from your GP before enrolling.

Q. I have never enjoyed exercise classes because I find it hard to follow a routine. Will CoreBall be hard to follow?

A. No, this is not a “choreographed” class with a routine. We work through a series of logically organised exercises that strengthen the deep abdominals and I explain each exercise and make sure that everyone is doing the exercise correctly and working at a challenging but manageable level.

Q. I’m a man! Is CoreBall for men too?

A. Yes! If you want to develop core strength – to alleviate back pain, correct your posture or improve your sports performance – then CoreBall is a very effective way of doing so, and it should become part of your weekly exercise “portfolio”.
